Integrating the Facebook Pixel

  1. If you don't already have one, set up a Facebook Pixel
    1. Visit www.facebook.com/ads/manager/pixel
    2. Click 'Set Up Pixel'
    3. Click 'Manually Install The Code Yourself'
    4. Copy the Entire Pixel Code. You will need to paste it in Step 9.
  2. Visit tagmanager.google.com
  3. Create a new container
  4. Container name: Organiser name
    Where to use container: Web
  5. On the left sidebar, click "Tags"
  6. Click "New" to create a new tag
  7. Click in the "Tag Configuration" box to select the tag type
  8. Select the "Custom HTML" tag type
  9. Paste your pixel code
  10. Tick the checkbox called 'Support document.write'
  11. Click on the "Triggering" box to configure the tag trigger
  12. Create a new trigger by clicking the "+" in the top right
  13. Click on the "Trigger Configuration" box to select the trigger type
  14. Select the "Custom Event" trigger
  15. The event name must be exactly: turbolinks:load
  16. Save without editing any other settings
  17. Name the Trigger "Turbolinks Load"
  18. Save the tag
  19. Name the tag: "Facebook Pixel"
  20. Save
  21. In the top right hand corner of the Tag Manager interface, click "Submit"
  22. Without editing anything on the page, click "Publish" in the top right hand corner
  23. Without specifying any version description, click "Continue"
  24. Now that your tag is published, click "Admin" from the main navigation
  25. Copy your Tag Manager code (starting with GTM-) next to your organiser name
  26. Visit the admin portal at www.howler.co.za/admin
  27. Click 'Organisers' at the top of the screen
  28. Click 'View' on the organiser you want to add analytics tracking to
  29. Click "Analytics Settings" in the top right
  30. Paste the Google Tag Manager code (the GTM- code)
  31. Save
  32. Wait a few minutes and your page views will start reflecting in Facebook
