Howler Backend Active Admin - Promo Codes

Robyn Marais Updated by Robyn Marais

You can use promo codes to reveal special tickets and offer discounted tickets to customers that hold these codes.

You will need to request access to create promo codes from the backend. Please contact your account manager or clientsupport@howler.co.za to request account assistant access.

For an overview of Active Admin, please refer to this Help Doc.

A promo code can reveal a special or discounted ticket type. A unique ticket type will need to be created and hidden by a promo code to utilise this function.

You can create this ticket type in the Organiser Portal or you can create this ticket type in Active Admin as below.

If you create the ticket type in the organiser portal, you'll need to edit it in Active Admin to be hidden by a promo code.

How to create a ticket type in Active Admin

  1. Navigate to your event settings in Active Admin
  2. Select the "Ticket Types" tab within the "Tickets & Registration" box.
  1. Select "New Ticket Type" in the top right corner.
  2. Enter the ticket type information including the discounted price.
  3. Make sure to select "Hidden by promo code" at the bottom.
  1. Select "Create ticket type"

If you've set this up correctly, you should not be able to see this ticket type on your customer-facing ticket page.

Assign promo codes to your ticket type

Now that you have a discounted ticket type created and hidden by a promo code, you can assign promo codes that will unhide this ticket type.

Once you've created your ticket type, you'll be directed to the "view ticket type" screen.

  1. Select the "Promo Codes" button at the top of this screen.

Here you will be able to create promo codes to unhide this ticket type on the customer-facing event page.

  1. Enter each promo code in a new line.
Promo codes are defaulted to only be used once. If a ticket has been purchased using that promo code it will not work again.
You can make a promo code valid for unlimited use if you select the "Make all unlimited quantity" checkbox.
You can also add the same promo code multiple times if you would like for it work multiple times but want this to be limited.
  1. Select "Create Promo Codes"

You'll see a success message at the top of the screen,

You'll also see each promo code created along with how many of that promo code are available, how many times it's been used and the total quanitity.

You can also unlink promo codes here if you no longer want them to be active.

You can now promote these promo codes for customers to redeem when purchasing tickets.

If customers are having any problems with promo codes, you can come here to check on the available quantity, promo code details and issue new ones if needed.

If you're experiencing any trouble with Promo Codes, please contact clientsupport@howler.co.za for assistance.
